A recent development confirms that the giant Google is at the final stage of acquiring Like.com which has nearly raised $50 million in venture capital since 2006 and has $50 million /year range.

Recalling a past failed venture in 2005, Google was on the verge of acquiring a company called Riya – the first real attempt at image facial recognition and tagging for consumers. But, the said deal was left stranded as Google walked away from Riya.
Though the Riya product was shut down in 2009, the company re-focused on the e-commerce. The Like.com was born using the Riya core technology. Since then, Like.com has rolled on into a multi million product.
Google is reported to be working on the deal for quite some time and now it has reached to the final stage of acquiring it. Sources has stated that the deal is worth $100 million.
Unlike the past acquisitions that Google has made, Like.com has nothing that fits into the mobile and their new social strategy that have been the trait of the acquisitions that Google has made so far. But, seems like Google which has been lately experimenting with the visual search likes what it sees in Like.com
